Having
rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
can make everyday tasks challenging. However, there are simple things you can do
that might make everyday activities easier:
- Store things that you use often in easy-to-reach places.
- Replace small handles on drawers and cabinets with larger ones.
- Replace round doorknobs with the push-lever type.
- Install a raised toilet seat.
- Get an electric can opener.
- Use an electric shaver.
- Use liquid soap instead of bar soap.
- Wear clothes that are easier to take on and off, like pants with elastic waists.
- Attach Velcro fasteners onto blouses and shirts.
- Try wearing slip-on shoes.
- Sit on a bar stool while doing tasks you normally stand up for, such as ironing,
chopping vegetables, etc.
- Use larger joints whenever possible. For example, carry your purse on your shoulder
rather than in your hand.
- Break large household chores into smaller tasks.
You may be surprised at what a difference these simple steps can make in helping
you manage everyday tasks.
